Overhaul for Catholic education in South Australia
Adelaide's Catholic education system will be streamlined under a sweeping shake-up proposed following an independent review of the Catholic Theological College.
The Southern Cross reports that the review has recommended bringing together the Catholic Theological College (CTC), the Catholic Education Office and the Catholic Adult Education Service into a "federated entity".
The recommendations form part of a review of the college's operations by Professor Bettina Cass at the request of Archbishop Leonard Faulkner of Adelaide and Bishop Eugene Hurley of Port Pirie.
Professor Cass was called in to review the college's future after major changes affecting both its financial base and "key mission" - to provide theological education for seminarians studying for the priesthood at St Francis Xavier's Seminary.
Last month Archbishop Faulkner announced the seminary would be closed from next year for the foreseeable future, with Adelaide's seminarians transferred to study in the Sydney archdiocese.
