Australian sisters wait to return to Pakistan
Nine Australian Mercy Sisters who left Pakistan on the Australian High Commission's advice before the first US strikes against targets in Afghanistan are still uncertain about when they will be able to go back.
The Catholic Leader reports that an expected review of the situation two weeks ago did not go ahead, but there will be a strategy meeting in the near future. Strategies for a return will be discovered in the context of further advice from the High Commission and other factors.
The sisters are very anxious to return to Pakistan, said the coordinator of cross-cultural ministries at the Institute of Mercy Sisters of Australia, Sr Helen Nolan.
A number of them help Afghani refugees in Pakistan and are keen to return to this work.
