Bishop warns against 'God is on our side' attitude
It's dangerous to claim that "God is on our side" in the US war against terrorists, Bishop Edward K. Braxton of Lake Charles said at a recent prayer service.
Making that assumption, especially at a time of crisis, can "blind our moral vision", he said.
What is really needed, he added, is to "keep striving to be on God's side."
In his homily at the service, held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Bishop Braxton focused on two religious questions flowing from the Pentagon and World Trade Centre attacks and the US response: "Is God on our side? If God is all powerful, why does God allow such a terrible thing to happen?"
