Canberra service remembers victims of US terrorist attacks

The Governor-General, Peter Hollingworth, attended an ecumenical service in Canberra's St Christopher's Catholic Cathedral yesterday afternoon to pay tribute to those who died in attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York, and the Pentagon in Washington.

The Anglican Bishop of Canberra, George Browning, described it is a service for the whole community, regardless of faith.

"I think it is important that people be given the opportunity to come together and reflect because this is an event which is unbelievable in its tragedy and unknown in its consequences for the world community," he said.
