Cardinal calls on Americans to seek justice, not vengeance

In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks against key symbols of US commerce and military strength, it is essential that the United States does not seek vengeance against any ethnic group, said Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick of Washington.

"We must pray for our nation, this beloved United States of America, that in the continual search for peace and justice, that we must resist the temptation to strike out in vengeance or revenge, or lay blame on any ethnic groups," Cardinal McCarrick said.

The cardinal made his remarks during a Mass on Tuesday in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washingtom DC, a few hours after terrorist attacks leveled the World Trade Centre in New York City, left the Pentagon in flames and crashed a commercial jetliner outside Pittsburgh.
