Sydney CEO acts on teacher shortage
The shortage of teachers is critical, says the Catholic Education Office, which has begun a campaign to attract more young people into the profession.
"The need to attract more people into teaching is a priority as the future of Australia is linked to the quality of those women and men who are forming our young people," Br Kelvin Canavan, executive director of schools for the archdiocese of Sydney told The Catholic Weekly.
The major focus of the campaign will be direct approaches to senior secondary school students, with secondary principals, teachers and career advisers being asked to talk to individual students about teaching.
An eye-catching brochure and poster highlighting the opportunities and rewards in teaching will be distributed to careers advisers, Year 12 coordinators and other teachers to create interest and provide information to students on a career in teaching.
