Union stands up for stressed clergy in UK
The newsletter of the MSF union - which represents some Catholic and Anglican and clergy - has suggested that overworked clergy might work to rule unless they are relieved of some of their non-pastoral responsibilities.
Welsh representative Rev Roger Brown said: "We simply cannot carry on painting over the cracks or alleging God will provide. Many of us feel he's put us here in this place and in this mess in order to ensure these radical decisions are made."
The article suggests clergy should be priests and pastors, and not administrators or "proppers-up of a parochial structure that is near collapse." And they should not have responsibility for church repairs or churchyards.
Rev Brown also questioned whether clergy should be marrying, burying or baptising the children of people who have rejected the church.
