Priest abducted in El Salvador
Three heavily armed men kidnapped a priest in a suburb of the capital San Salvador, police said on Monday.
They were unsure of the motive.
Police said Fr Rogelio Esquivel, 60, was abducted on Sunday night as he arrived at the Immaculate Conception Church in Santa Tecla, about 11 kilometres west of the city.
National Police Commissioner William Santillana said he did not know if the kidnappers had sought a ransom, but he said police were searching for the priest and his captors.
The Archbishop of San Salvador, Fernando Saenz Lacalle, condemned the kidnapping on Monday and said he did not believe there was a personal motive.
Police have reported at least 40 kidnappings in El Salvador this year. There were 112 reported last year.
