Bishops' Women's Commission officially launched
The ten members of the Commission for Australian Catholic Women were formally commissioned last Friday at a service in the Crypt of St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney.
Chairman of the Bishops' Committee for the Laity, Bishop Peter Connors, representing the Australian Catholic Bishops' Conference, presided over the ceremony.
"This was an opportunity for members of the Commission to make a public commitment to the work that has been asked of us in facilitating the implementation of the initiatives of the Social Justice Statement 2000," said Chairperson of the Women's Commission, Mrs Geraldine Hawkes. "We were delighted that a number of people came along and joined with us in prayer - representatives from parishes, the Catholic Women's League, Australian Catholic University and Religious Congregations as well as family and friends."
Earlier in the day, members of the Commission held their third meeting during which they worked on the development of a range of processes and ideas to assist them in working with Dioceses and the various national bodies.
The Commission continued to discuss the vision and values for the Commission as mandated in the Social Justice Statement of last year.
