Ecumenical service to pray for new GG
Members of Christian churches around Brisbane will come together at St Stephen's Catholic Cathedral on Tuesday for an ecumenical celebration for Anglican Archbishop Peter Hollingworth as he prepares to take on his new role as Australia's next Governor-General.
Fr Ken Howell, the Cathedral's Director of Worship, told The Catholic Leader: "In reflecting on the good relationship between the Churches and the state here, Archbishop Bathersby asked if it was possible that there would be a gathering (where they) would pray for God's blessing."
"Archbishop Bathersby was more than happy it should happen and willingly offered St Stephen's as the venue so people from throughout the city could come to the event," he continued.
Hymns will be sung by combined choirs, and the service will also include scripture and prayers of blessing.
"We will be praying in thanksgiving for the gifts he has brought as Anglican archbishop and that he'll be able to bring those gifts to his new role as Governor-General," Fr Howell said.
