Vatican regrets shortcomings of AIDS summit
The Vatican issued a statement moments after the UN General Assembly on AIDS adopted a battle plan on Wednesday evening, objecting to some aspects and expressing regret over others.
The Holy See, with observer status at the United Nations, feels that "irresponsible, unsafe, high risk or risky behaviour were not adequately discussed and addressed in the preparation of this declaration."
With regard to the use of condoms as a means of preventing HIV infection, the Vatican has "in no way changed its moral position."
The Vatican's stand against condom use as a way to fight the spread of the HIV virus has drawn much criticism.
