FBI in Guatemala to probe murder of US nun
American FBI agents have arrived in Guatemala to investigate the killing of Sr Barbara Ann Ford, according to US diplomatic sources
Sr Barbara Ann, 64, of the New York Sisters of Charity, was murdered on a street on 5 May. She worked for Caritas in the Diocese of Santa Cruz del Quiché, where she had been living since 1989.
The nun had organised an extensive mental health program for victims of massacres and crimes committed during the country's 36-year civil war.
She also collaborated in the preparation of a report on those responsible for wartime atrocities. The report was written by Bishop Juan Gerardi, who was killed a few hours after the report was published.
US Ambassador Prudence Bushnell said the FBI agents will remain in the country for as long as the Guatemalan Interior Minister wants.
