Updated Roman Martyrology nears publication
The Vatican will soon complete a project that has been awaited since Vatican II - the publication of a new martyrology for the Catholic Church.
The martyrology is an official register of Christian martyrs. The Roman Martyrology - the Catholic Church's official martyrology - has been updated several times since its first publication in 1584.
The Congregation for Divine Worship, which has been charged with the responsibility for producing the new martyrology, has completed its work on the latest update. Vatican insiders report that the work could have been produced before Easter, except that the Vatican printers have been fully occupied with the special orders associated with the Easter season.
