Bishop Joe Grech installed in Sandhurst Diocese

Bishop Joseph Grech was installed on Friday night as the sixth Bishop of Sandhurst, based in the Victorian regional city of Bendigo.

The Mass of Installation was be held at the city's Sacred Heart Cathedral on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel, Patroness of the Diocese of Sandhurst.

Outgoing Melbourne Archbishop George Pell and Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Francesco Canalini escorted Bishop Joseph to the Bishop's Chair, where he was welcomed by representatives of civic and church organisations and priests and parishioners of the Diocese.

A special Fanfare was composed for the occasion.   

Bishop Grech was appointed Bishop of Sandhurst by Pope John Paul II on 8 March. He was the former Auxiliary Bishop of the Western Region of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. He was ordained Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne on 10 February 1999.
