New bishop for Victorian diocese
    Melbourne Archdiocese auxiliary Bishop Joseph Grech has been named bishop of the Bendigo-based regional diocese of Sandhurst.
    Bishop Grech, 52, began studies for the priesthood in his native Malta, before moving to Melbourne in 1971 for his final years. He served in several Melbourne parishes before undertaking post-graduate studies in Spirituality at the Gregorian University in Rome. In 1993, he was appointed full-time chaplain to Catholic Charismatic Renewal in the Archdiocese, then Spiritual Director at Corpus Christi seminary being ordained bishop in 1999.
    The see of Sandhurst has been vacant since Bishop Noel Daly's resignation due to health reasons last July.
    No date has yet been set for Bishop Grech's installation in Sandhurst.
