Church's sex abuse guidelines updated
The Church's 1996 guidelines on how to deal with and prevent sexual abuse occurring in the Church have been updated, with effect from today.
The Catholic Weekly reports that the Australian bishops have revised their 1996 document Towards Healing, which outlines the principles and procedures for responding to complaints of sexual abuse by Church personnel.
The new revised document builds on the earlier one and includes a principle of "unacceptable risk" as part of the updated guidelines designed to protect the community and against sexual abuse.
