Pope says Jubilee has changed everything
Pope John Paul II has told Jubilee officials that, now that the Jubilee is over, 'nothing is as before'.
He told members of the Jubilee Central Committee on Thursday: "In the historic transition that humanity is living, the Holy Year has had the providential function to make the echo of the 'Good News' resound again."
The audience also included collaborators from Vatican City State and the diocese of Rome, and Italian civil and military authorities.
Rome received close to 30 million pilgrims over 379 days of the Holy Year.
The Holy Father expressed his heartfelt gratitude, specifically to Italian local government officials, the Ministry of PUblic Works, and the state broadcaster RAI.
The Pontiff was especially grateful to RAI for the manner in which it collaborated with the Pontifical Council for Social Communications.
