Bishops to finalise women's commission
The membership of the new Commission for Australian Catholic women is expected to be finalised during this week's meeting of the Australian bishops in Sydney, The Catholic Leader reports.
The commission was promised by the bishops in their September Social Justice Sunday response to the report Women and Man: One in Christ Jesus.
The commission will act as a focal point for ongoing dialogue with and integration of ideas relating to women in the Australian Church and will assist in implementing decisions in relation to women's participation from the bishops' May conference.
The bishops are also expected to finalise arrangements for a conference of the bishops of Oceania, to be held in Australia next year.
The meeting, which began yesterday, continues until Friday.
