New Delhi archbishop calls for dialogue
The new Archbishop of Delhi, Vincent Concessao, has been installed in office at a five-hour religious ceremony in the Indian capital.
The BBC reports that the archbishop spoke afterwards and called for harmony and dialogue between the different religious communities in India.
He takes over following a wave or attacks on Christians, which missionaries have blamed on right-wing Hindu groups close to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Hindu groups such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad have denied any involvement: they accuse the missionaries of causing resentment by their conversion efforts among tribal peoples. The previous Delhi archbishop, Alan de Lastic, was killed in a car accident in June while in Poland.
