New Chancellor for Australian Catholic University
President of Australian Catholic University, Archbishop George Pell, has announced that Christian Brothers NSW Provincial Br Julian McDonald has been appointed the next Chancellor of the University.
The Catholic Weekly reports that Br McDonald began his appointment this week, following the expiration of the term of office his predecessor Cardinal Edward Clancy.
Archbishop Pell said that he and all other members of the University offered their heartfelt appreciation to Cardinal Clancy who had given inspirational leadership to the Senate of the University as Chancellor since its incorporation in November 1990.
Br Julian McDonald has been Pro-Chancellor of the University for the last five years and was well briefed to take over the role of Chancellor, Archbishop Pell said. Members of the University greatly admired the work done by Br McDonald, he said, and had every confidence that the institution would meet all future challenges under his leadership.
Archbishop Pell also announced that Mr Edward Exell, AM, Business Manager of the Archdiocese of Melbourne, had been appointed the next Pro-Chancellor of the University. Mr Exell is a senior member of the standing and finance committee of the University and also chairs its audit committee.
