Jubilee a chance for politicians to examine their conscience
The profession of politics is in urgent need of rehabilitation, and it's hoped this weekend's Jubilee of Politicians in Rome will encourage politicians to behave ethically, according to President of the Vatican Jubilee Committee, Cardinal Roger Etchegaray.
He told a press conference on Tuesday: "Politics must be urgently rehabilitated, which is regarded with suspicion, discredited by everything that has affected its image and obfuscated its ethical features."
Cardinal Etchegaray referred to the historic opportunity given by this first-of-its-kind Jubilee event, enabling politicians, both believers and nonbelievers, to face their conscience and address the most urgent problems of their mission.
More than 2000 political figures will meet with the Pope tomorrow in Paul VI Hall in the Vatican.
