Victorian Mercy Hospital to close
Mercy Health & Aged Care has announced the closure of the Diamond Valley Mercy Hospital, a 76-bed private hospital at Greensborough in Melbourne's north-eastern region.
The hospital, which was taken over by the Mercy group two years ago in an endeavour to reverse the downward trend in its performance, will close in approximately a month.
Chief Executive Officer of Mercy Health & Aged Care, John Ballard, said the decision to close Diamond Valley Mercy Hospital had been taken with the most profound regret. Mr Ballard said closure had been decided only after comprehensive evaluation of the hospital's financial and operational position and all possible options for its future.
"The Mercy group has worked with the hospital management and staff and the local community in an effort to restore it as a viable health care service," Mr Ballard said. "Unfortunately, the facts are the hospital maintains a low occupancy, its debt is increasing and the hospital continues to incur losses."
