Indonesia    MILITARY KILL MUSLIM FIGHTERS TO PROTECT MALUKU CHRISTIAN VILLAGE
Last Tuesday, the Indonesian army killed 19 Muslim paramilitaries, after they attacked a Christian village in Maluku.
According to John Tamasoa, a spokesman for the Civilian Emergency Authority, four of the paramilitaries were Indonesians, giving credence to local claims that non-Moluccans have been participating in the local Muslim-Christian conflict.
Thousands of Moluccans lost their lives in fights between Christian and Muslim gangs which have been taking place since 1998. Recently, Moluccan Islamic gangs have been receiving military support from thousands of fundamentalist "Jihad" fighters from other regions of Indonesia.
Although the Indonesian military had been ordered to prevent these Jihad fighters from entering the Moluccas, many paramilitaries slipped through the mazes with the help of sympathising Indonesian soldiers.
