Sri Lanka    SALESIANS DENOUNCE WESTERN CHILD SEX TOURISM IN THIRD WORLD
Commenting on the growth of child sex advertising on the Internet, Fr Juan Edmundo Vecchi, major rector of the Salesian order, called on developed nations to show more concern with the "disgrace of sexual tourism".
"The sexual exploitation of children and the disgrace of sexual tourism are among the questions pending at the dawn of the new millennium," Fr Vecchi told the VID news agency.
He said that his congregation has been working for years to help children recover from the consequences of the sex trade.
In Sri Lanka's Don Bosco Centre in Negombo, 736 former child prostitutes have just completed their rehabilitation process with positive results, Fr Vecchi noted.
He said that since its establishment the centre had helped a total of 66,304 children through various prevention programs.
