Hong Kong diocese's Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) marked China's National Day on Sunday by protesting the suppression of the "underground" Catholic Church in mainland China and the mainland's one-child policy. |
As the People's Republic of China celebrated its 51st anniversary, the JPC denounced the Chinese government for depriving its people of human rights and oppressing dissidents during the past 51 years.
The "1 October Statement Against the Suppression of the China Church," issued on Saturday, denounced a series of recent actions against Catholic priests and bishops not affiliated with the government-recognized "open" Church.
The JPC has also collected 2000 signatures from Christians to protest China's one-child policy.
