|India||CHURCH INCULTURATION INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE ASHRAMS|
The Catholic Church in India has decided to develop an 'inculturated theology', and promote ashrams and interreligious dialogue cells to help it become a vibrant force in the country. |
Some 800 representatives from India's 143 dioceses who attended a national assembly last week also proposed developing a theology of women, dalits (low castes) and the oppressed, and encouraging more women and lay theologians.
The assembly in southern city of Bangalore also set up a follow-up committee to monitor implementation of the recommendations at the grassroots. It also proposed a theological centre to prepare laity for lay ministries and develop a participatory Church.
