Olympics    FILIPINOS LAUNCH PRAYER CRUSADE FOR OLYMPIC SUCCESS
Ahead of the beginning of their competition at the Sydney Olympics this morning, families of two Filipino Taekwndo participants say they have launched a "prayer crusade" with relatives and friends for success.
Jasmin Strachan told UCA News that she believed in a "strong connection" between prayer and her martial art. Reflection is part of her daily routine and she prays for "grace and guidance", Strachan told UCA News. She listed "saying prayers" in the superstitions category of her profile published on the Olympics website.
Fellow taekwondo athlete Eva Marie Ditan said prayer is "automatic" for her. "I don't sleep unless I've prayed," she said.
No Filipino woman has won a medal in the previous 16 Olympics in which the country has participated. Tawkwondo is being staged as a medal event for the first time at the Sydney Olympics.
Donald David Geisler said it is nice to pray the rosary as a team before the taekwondo competition.
