Vietnam    CHURCH RUSHES TO HELP FLOOD VICTIMS IN MEKONG DELTA
Church leaders have called on Catholics to give relief assistance to victims of flooding in Vietnam's Mekong delta region that has claimed more than 100 lives.
Bishop Paul Bui Van Doc of My Tho said in his appeal letter on Friday that 2700 Catholic families in his diocese need urgent assistance.
Long Xuyen diocese also requested urgent aid. Archbishop Jean Baptiste Pham Minh Man of Ho Chi Minh City appealed in an earlier letter for Catholics to donate to flood relief collections. Bishop Pierre Nguyen Van Nhon of Da Lat asked all Catholics to set aside last Sunday as a day of prayer and priests to use one day's Mass honorarium to share with flood-hit dioceses.
