East Timor     BISHOP BELO CALLS FOR FORGIVENESS
Dili's Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Carlos Belo, has called upon Catholics in East Timor to unite and to forgive their enemies.
Thousands of people attended the bishop's mass in Dili yesterday as they celebrated the first anniversary of independence vote.
Bishop Belo called on the people of East Timor to pray for their martyrs because he said "they see us from heaven but we must continue their sacrifice". He called on the congregation not to forget those who had died to achieve freedom.
The bishop thanked the nations of the world and the United Nations and its peacekeeping forces.
Special thanks was given to Ian Martin who led the UN's popular consultation last year.
