The final two gold coins in the Vatican's Holy Year 2000 series have been released by the Vatican. |
Both coins are struck in .917 percent pure gold and both have a maximum mintage of 6000 pieces. They are only available in proof versions, which have a mirror-like finish.
The 100,000 lire gold coin depicts the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and the 50,000 lire gold piece shows a father embracing his son, representing the parable of the prodigal son.
The coins are available from the Vatican. The 100,000 lire coin costs 620,000 lire ($A491) and the 50,000 lire, 310,000 lire ($A245).
