Vatican     HOLY SEE STRIKES GOLD COMMEMORATIVE COINS FOR HOLY YEAR
The final two gold coins in the Vatican's Holy Year 2000 series have been released by the Vatican.
Both coins are struck in .917 percent pure gold and both have a maximum mintage of 6000 pieces. They are only available in proof versions, which have a mirror-like finish.
The 100,000 lire gold coin depicts the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and the 50,000 lire gold piece shows a father embracing his son, representing the parable of the prodigal son.
The coins are available from the Vatican. The 100,000 lire coin costs 620,000 lire ($A491) and the 50,000 lire, 310,000 lire ($A245).
