Evangelisation    SVDP CALL FOR CHRISTIANS TO STAND UP
Statistics showing there are fewer Christians in Australia have alarmed the St Vincent de Paul Society.
The Catholic Leader reports that Queensland president Tim O'Connor has called on Catholics to 'come out into the open' in response.
He said the recently released Social Trends 2000 report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics was a sobering reminder that christianity appeaars to be in decline in this country.
"According to this report, over the last century the number of Christians in Australia has dropped by more than 20%," Mr O'Connor said.
"The Society's mission statement in Australia commits it to deepening the Catholic faith of its members so they can go out into the community to heighten awareness of Christ," he said.
