Italy    SOCIETY KILLED NUN SAYS BISHOP
An Italian bishop has criticised his country's "permissive" society for the part he believed it played in the murder of a nun.
Italy has reacted with horror at the glib confession of the three middle-class teenage girls from Chiavenna, near Sondrio, who said they killed Sr Maria Laura Mainetti, 61, for "a laugh".
Bishop Alessandro Maggiolini of Como and Sondrio saw the murder as part of a phenomenon, for which Italy's liberal society was to blame.
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old nun committed suicide on Sunday by jumping out of a second floor window in her convent, police in Rome said.
They said a suicide note was found in the nun's bedroom in which she said killed herself because the Mother Superior refused to allow her to leave the building. She also asked for forgiveness.
