Vatican     POPE SENDS CONDOLENCES AFTER SPANISH BUS CRASH
The Holy Father sent a telegram of sympathy through the Secretary of State, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, after learning of a road accident on Thursday that killed 28 students and teachers from two Catholic schools in the Catalan region of Spain.
The students from two schools in the vicinity of Soria were travelling to a summer camp organised by the St. Gabriel Brothers of Christian Education. A truck transporting pigs appeared to lose control, swerved across the main road and crashed head-on into their coach. Twenty-two died at the scene and six later in hospital. The cause of the crash is not yet known.
The statement read: "The Holy Father expresses his profound sympathy to the victims' relatives and organisers of the activity, along with his heartfelt expression of closeness and consolation, of intense solicitude and hope for the speedy recovery of the wounded."
