Canada    ARCHBISHOP 'DID NOTHING' TO STOP SEXUAL ABUSE
A court has ruled that a former Archbishop of Newfoundland in Canada knew that one of his priests was sexually abusing boys and did nothing to stop it.
The ruling says former Archbishop Alphonsus Penney was negligent for failing to report the abuse after being made aware of it in the late 1970s.
The court also found the bishop of the diocese and the Roman Catholic Episcopal Corp. of St George's vicariously liable.
Fr Kevin Bennett committed hundreds of sexual assaults between 1961 and 1989. He refused treatment in the 1960s, and was transferred to a different church, where the abuse continued and increased.
