Vatican     POPE FEARS FOR FUTURE OF THE SWALLOW
The Pope is meeting UK wildlife campaigners at the Vatican to discuss the crisis facing one of Europe's best-loved birds, the swallow.
Representatives from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and LIPU, the Italian Bird Conservation organisation, will meet the Pope to discuss the impact of chemicals on crops.
A spokesman for the RSPB said: "The fact that the Pope is interested is an encouraging sign for people across Europe.
"We would hope that decision makers will take this on board. The Pope has flagged a problem that conservationists have been complaining about for many years.
"To have the decline of a wild bird raised at such a high level is crucial to people's understanding that swallows are in crisis."
