India    POPE'S SECOND APPEAL FOR HARMONY COINCIDES WITH GOVERNMENT ACTION
As Pope John Paul II appealed a second time for an end to violence against Christians in India, the federal government called a meeting of all state chief ministers to address the issue.
The meeting early next month will address "all aspects of internal security, including recent attacks on Christian institutions," federal Home Minister L.K. Advani told reporters in New Delhi last week, just before the renewed papal appeal.
During his weekly Wednesday audience, the Holy Father said that the violence in India has become "alarming after many attacks were reported lately against Christian communities and other minorities." He asked Indian authorities to "act decisively."
