PROTESTANTS AND MUSLIMS SUPPORT VATICAN IN UN
After only four months of lobbying, the number of groups supporting the Vatican's continued observer status at the United Nations has grown to over 2000, representing more than 50 countries.
The campaign, which began quietly early in January, is supported by the largest Evangelical Protestant groups worldwide, including Focus on the Family, as well as the important Muslim groups such as the London-based Al-Khoei Foundation.
The campaign is a response to efforts by pro-abortion activists to oust the Vatican from its seat as Permanent Observer at the United Nations. This post does not allow the Vatican to vote in the General Assembly but permits the Pope's representative to participate in the debates.
As the UN concerns itself more with issues to do with human reproduction, the Vatican has participated in a coalition of States that have impeded moves to recognise abortion as a universal human right.
