Vatican     POPE GREETS FORMER PROSTITUTES
Pope John Paul II greeted 40 former sex workers in a spontaneouis act during his Wednesday audience in the Vatican this week.
The sex workers had been associated with the John XXIII Association, founded by Italian priest, Fr Oreste Benzi.
At the end of the meeting, 4 of them went up to greet the Pope. One of them broke into tears as the Holy Father put his hand out to her.
The meeting was not planned, and security agents were at a loss as to how to react. "We are here to thank the Pope for the love he has always shown for victims of exploitation and violence," Fr Benzi said.
