|Brisbane||SISTER OF MERCY NAMED MOTHER OF THE YEAR|
Mercy Sr Mary Lawson, who has taught hundreds of hearing impaired children during 22 years of special ministry, has been named Queesland's Mother of the Year.
The award was made to her last week by the Queensland Mother of the Year Council.
Sr Mary, who is senior education officer for hearing impairment services for the Brisbane Catholic Education Office, was nominated by the Banyo parish branch of the Catholic Women's League, and was one of 19 nominees from across the state.
Her award was "presented as a token of repect and appreciation of [her] labour of love for the physical, social and spiritual well-being of a large number of children and families over many years".
But Sr Mary said the children's mothers were the true, deserving heroes.
