Vatican     PAPAL CONDOLENCES AFTER BLAST IN NETHERLANDS
In a telegram to Cardinal Adrianus Simonis, the president of the Dutch episcopal conference, Pope John Paul II has sent his condolences to the victims of a massive explosion that killed at least 20 people in the town of Enschede on Saturday.
The telegram, signed in the Pope's name by Cardinal Angelo Sodano, the Vatican Secretary of State, said that the Holy Father was "profoundly saddened" by news of the blast, which destroyed 400 homes and forced the evacuation of 2000 people.
The Pope's message indicated that he would pray for the victims and their families.
