Vatican     POPE REGRETS WIDESPREAD IMMATURITY
'Social difficulties' that 'do not contribute to the maturing of personalities' are part of the course of the lack of vocations to the clergy and religious life in many countries, according to Pope John Paul II.
Speaking to members of the Paris-based Institute of Formation for the Educators of Clergy, whom he received in an audience in the Vatican, he wrote that "to prepare the future, it is indeed especially important to form a new generation of priests capable of assuming broad diocesan responsibilities and positions of leadership at all levels of the Church. Discernment and formation for spiritual leadership are essential elements for priests invested with responsibility."
