|Pakistan||SEVEN CHRISTIAN WOMEN GANG RAPED|
Seven Christian women were gang raped one after the other by five armed men earlier this month near Lahore in northeastern Pakistan.
The women, garment factory workers, reportedly were on their way home when the gunmen stopped the bus they were riding at Ferozwala at midnight and started assaulting the women after overpowering the driver and the conductor.
Another factory worker, a Muslim in her 40s, was spared by the gunmen. "The barbarity spanned over three hours," said Shaheen, a victim.
Fr Emmanuel Yousaf Mani, director of the Catholic bishops' National Commission for Justice and Peace, said: "We have reason to suspect that there was a religious hatred involved in this act of inhumanity as it is an undercurrent in many incidents of violence against women."
