|National||CHARITIES TO GAIN MORE GST CONCESSIONS|
The Federal Government will grant more concessions to Church and other charities so they avoid paying and collecting the goods and services tax (GST).
The government will move amendments to give the Tax Commissioner more power to allow fundraising events to be input-taxed.
That will mean the final sale price of goods or services will not be subject to the GST.
The government says the commissioner would be able to rule fetes, gala shows, dinners or fundraising activites such as chocolate and flower sales as GST-free.
The charities amendments are among a series of changes the government has unveiled.
The Treasurer, Peter Costello, says the changes will not have any effect on revenue.
