Kenya    DIOCESE'S VICAR GENERAL AND NUNS ARRESTED FOR DEBT PROTEST
Vicar General of the Kenya's Kitui Diocese, Fr Flavian Mwendwa, and four sisters, spent a night in a police lockup last week after being arrested for their involvement in a protest demanding the cancellation of Kenya's foreign debt.
The priest and the Loreto and Mercy sisters were part of a group of 72 people, including two minors, arrested by police as they marched towards the World Bank headquarters in Nairobi, to demand the cancellation of Kenya's foreign debt, Kenyan Bishops Conference Secretary Fr Michael Ruwa told the Rome-based MISNA news agency.
Fr Ruwa said the arrested were released following payment of a $A72 fine.
