|North Korea||CARITAS APPEALS FOR INTERNATIONAL AID FOR NORTH KOREA|
Caritas Internationalis is appealing internationally for donations to aid North Koreans suffering from shortages of food, medicine and other basic necessities.
North Koreans still lack all kinds of supplies, although the food situation has stabilised a bit compared to a few years ago, Kathi Zellweger, director of international cooperation of Caritas Hong Kong, told UCA News last week.
Caritas Hong Kong has coordinated the aid program for North Korea on behalf of the Caritas Internationalis network since 1995, when floods and drought caused extensive damage to food production in the isolated communist country. In a letter included in the March 27 appeal, Zellweger stated that Caritas has no evidence that aid has been diverted.
