|India||NUNS ATTACKED ON WAY TO EASTER MASS|
Two nuns walking to church for Easter vigil Mass were "deliberately" knocked down on Holy Saturday night by a masked assailant on a motorbike in Rewari, 80 km west of New Delhi, in northern Haryana state.
Catholic World News says Archbishop Alan Basil de Lastic of Delhi, president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India, was forced to hold an impromptu press conference by dozens of photographers and reporters who gathered at the Holy Family Hospital in New Delhi where Franciscan Mary Missioner (FMM) Sister Anandi, who suffered head injuries, is being treated in the intensive care unit.
The assailant first rode past three nuns walking to church for Easter Mass before he came back and knocked down two of them, FMM lawyer Sr. Anne Mathew said. Although the assailant was also knocked down in the process, he sped off when people gathered around him.
"We have been receiving threats for the last six months asking us to leave the place," said the nun. Anonymous leaflets have been printed and distributed against the five FMM nuns working for women's rights in Rewari.
