East Timor     AID ENTICES EAST TIMORESE REFUGEES TO PROTESTANTISM
Hundreds of East Timorese Catholic refugees in western Timor, Indonesia, have become Protestants after receiving material assistance from Protestant donors.
Some 400 East Timorese Catholics from 50 families have joined the Bethel Church or other Christian denominations after receiving food, clothes and financial assistance on a regular basis, a refugee source told UCA News.
"My family has changed religion because at the time when we were starving and seriously needed help, we did not receive enough aid from the Catholic Church, the government or (other) organisations," Domingus Pinto Soares told UCA News.
He said people who provided assistance promised even more "if we move to the religion of the donors."
