Hong Kong    CATHOLICS DEMAND ACTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS
Hong Kong diocese's Justice and Peace Commission has asked Chinese authorities to improve the human rights situation in mainland China and release all religious and political prisoners.
In an appeal at the weekend, the commission handed letters and petitions signed by 14,000 people to the Hong Kong Chief Executive's Office and the local office of China's Foreign Ministry.
The letters said that the Christians "deeply regret the Chinese government's suppression of human rights."
In the signature campaign that began in December, parishioners and others signed five separate petition letters, each one focusing on one of five cases of people arrested in the last few years, two bishops among them.
