|India||PARISH TO ATONE FOR VIOLENCE DURING BISHOP'S ORDINATION MASS|
A cathedral parish in southern India plans to observe a day of fasting and prayer this week as reparation for the violence that took place at the ordination of their new bishop.
"We have never seen such violence during Holy Mass, and that too by priests," said Juliana Lobo, an elderly parishioner of Shimoga diocese's Sacred Heart Cathedral.
A group including priests disrupted the 20 March ordination there of Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo of Shimoga. Three priests and some laypeople were injured in the ensuing melee with police. Police arrested several persons including 18 cassock-wearing priests who rushed to the altar and prevented the main celebrant from reading the opening message.
