|Vatican||PONTIFICAL COUNCIL CONDEMNS GAY MARRIAGE RESOLUTION|
On Friday, the Pontifical Council for the Family condemned the European parliamentary resolution passed on Thursday affirming the need to recognise same-sex marriages.
A communique released by the Council said: "This resolution constitutes a serious and sustained attack on the marriage-based family, a union of love and life between a man and a woman from which life naturally results."
It urged all European legislators, and 'especially Catholic parliamentarians', not to vote in support of this type of legislation.
The statement emphasised traditional matrimony, on which 'all societies are solidly based'. It said that 'to deny this fundamental and elemental anthropological truth would lead to the destruction of the social fabric (of society'.
